
“Spirit, invisible, humanism, incomplete, weed” and “stickiness out of chaos” are some of Juan Ignacio Moralejo words chosen to describe Headquarters Magazine, publication founded in June 2006 and has become one of the most exciting publishing initiatives Buenos Aires.
Moralejo, that comes from having attended Sofia Coppola in Los Angeles, worked with various advertising agencies in Buenos Aires and had experiences “frustrating” in print media, curatorial approach ensures that the magazine is simple: his personal taste in open collaboration with artists from different disciplines.
For those who have not seen it, these two definitions serve as a fairly accurate description of the journal: this is a small book collection object stripped of too many gadgets graphic design, which gives real space (and air) the arts with the main objective of exposing and consuming.
But all these things more eloquently explained in the following interview Moralejo, in which also shared its path, talks about how he saw several publications and fail to express their views on what the field is overloaded art.
BA Culturemix (BACM): -How did Headquarters?
Juan Ignacio Moralejo (JIM): -The idea of a magazine comes from a long time. I was always certain publications reader comes a time that is not so much the distance that remains between consumer and producer. BACM: -What is your career?, What do you do before founding the journal?

I was very bored, but it was two blocks from Tower Records, I spent time there looking magazines and listening to records.
My first job was too Canchero: Sofia Coppola's assistant in Los Angeles. What was to scan photos, contact record in your diary and eating pizza at her swimming pool. They seemed to leave. That was in August 2001. And when it became the World Trade Center the following month, there was not much to do. They were all in shock, depressed and paranoid, doing nothing.
I returned to Buenos Aires in early December 2001 eager to do things, but after a few days was the great crisis. Chase the future looked black, so all I could think was to do a book and leave it in an advertising agency. At this moment the one I dreamed was Needle & Baccetti. I called a few months and this starts a string of jobs in advertising where advertising never did. They knew right where to wear, But I had lying around. At a time when the agency called me FiRe, where I spent a few months until I asked again Agulla. Then I called from the Community. There I saw that he had much to do and I started to print an internal review rather liked. I stayed a year and a half.
I currently work freelance for the agency occasionally Mother. In the midst of all this, the best thing I did was enroll in a photography workshop with Guillermo Ueno 2002, I learned a lot and met many friends whose production inspired me. En 2003 people come from iD magazine and I am far Argentine correspondent. En 2005 I enInlled in the workshop of Nahuel Vecino and started drawing, but now I stopped. Perhaps resume.

BACM: -How would you describe the spirit or intent of the journal?
JIM: -At the time I spent a year thinking I wanted it to be, tone. I even made a decalogue. Some of the words that I write there were: spirit, invisible, energy, constructive, humanism, immediate, direct, record, incomplete, weed, door, filter, mark, rate, concentration, unit, stickiness out of chaos. Write format including: portable, modest, collectable, generic, Regular.
BACM: -What are Chuck?, or how many people think that comes?
JIM: -Print 1000. A I do not know how many people get well. I know that sometimes recommend, and that's the best thing that can happen. Just what I like about advertising is trying to get you something for all sides: on the steps of the subway stairs, the camel made lasers that sets you on the retina of the eye when you dance. I prefer to let things get you to them and not vice versa. Luckily now I Christine-Marie Andrieu help to translate the magazine into English and I'm sending a lot of numbers to Tokyo, Seoul and Los Angeles. This year I want to focus on that, because they occur very interesting things. It's like throwing bottles into the sea and cause random.
BACM: -¿You're aware that it is considered ‘cool’ or alternative-status symbol in Buenos Aires?, What do you think about it?
JIM: -For now I can give ball to the magazine is something new. There is hunger for anything new, will not necessarily because it is a good thing. I guess it's a matter of perseverance and long-term, as with all. But do not worry too much on who is consuming it, I try to do what interests me at that time.
I have seen many magazines die or lose grace when they fall into two issues: 1) to the magazine to win silver, fill with people and have free tickets to concerts or go to some local celebrity showcase; 2) public awareness, and produce thinking about what that audience wants to believe that. Anyway, I think it has a very heterogeneous audience that includes alternative. I like to have a very formal with a Pipe gentlemen who buy at the bookstore Poema 20, one example:.

BACM: -According to what you see and public, How do you see the pop art scene in Buenos Aires?
JIM: -I think if 2001 all young people were enrolled to study modern advertising, at 2008 are recorded in art. I see too much art fair, kilo art, and that seems a bit stifling. Nothing breathes. So it is more difficult to find things that are good. I like it when people keep the innocence and passion, but now I see much of that energy put into making lobby and the pose of the artist rather than the work.
I guess I'm consciously moving ever more in the world of art and not art, which is another thing. I am interested in the lives of people and how they are reflected, but the art that refers to other art, artists or art which use only… it comes to image four times eating reheated in the microwave. BACM: -What other projects do you have personally?
JIM: -The next is to go to New York in May for three months as an assistant to my favorite photographer. Not yet confirmed, but I feel I learn a lot. But first I have to rent my apartment to a foreigner…
